The area around Memphis was first settled by Native Americans of the Chickasaw tribe and you can find this name on street signs and ball teams in the region. Resting on the banks of the Mississippi River It has been influenced by many cultures because of early explorers. It has been explored by the French and Spanish as early as the mid 1500′s.

The Mississippi, also known as the Big River, has had a lot to do in shaping the culture of Memphis and the surrounding area. It carried a lot of goods to and from Memphis in the early history of it and still does today. FedEx has it’s main hub in Memphis as well.

Memphis became a city in 1826 and shares its’ name with an ancient capital of Egypt. The pyramid shape was chosen as the new city arena concert venue and organized basketball games.

Also, it was in Memphis that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Memphis was a focal point of the civil rights movement and is the city that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The hotel where it happened has been turned into a civil rights museum and is a tourist attraction.

Memphis, like much of the mid-south is very humid with hot summers and freezing winters. The area is often called tornado alley for all of the tornadoes that are produced there in the spring. That being said the climate for the most part is very nice and a good vacation spot. Memphis has some of the best fishing in the United States and many people will tell you it has the best barbecue.

Memphis has a festival called Memphis in May with live bands and BBQ teams from all over the country competing for top prize. It is also famous for Beale St. and the Blues.

If you would like to learn about Memphis vacation packages now is a great time. There is always something going on in this historical town.

Having a good defense is essential when you are faced with a DUI prosecution, so be sure to be represented by experienced Memphis dui attorneys, who can handle the case properly. In the end, everything depends on lawyers, so it’s very important to choose wisely. Young people, especially, are tempted to drive while being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They defy the law and rebel against it, to prove their independence and free spirit. Unfortunately, the state laws have zero tolerance for juvenile rebellion. Driving under the influence can cost you your driving license, unless you are defended by one of the skilled Memphis dui lawyers.

Should you be implied in a DUI incident, don’t panic. The first thing you should do is to find out as much information about state laws and your legal rights as you can. Contact one of the Memphis dui lawyers to help you, or you can look it up on the Internet. Statistics show that about half a million Americans are involved in DUI-related car accidents, so there are many chances that you will need the assistance of Memphis dui attorneys at least once in your life. The unpleasant consequences of these incidents can be loss of driver’s license, substantial fines, incarceration or house arrests. The best way to avoid these problems is, of course, to refrain yourself from driving after you have drunk alcohol. If you couldn’t help it, the only solution is to hire competent Memphis dui attorneys.

What exactly can Memphis dui lawyers do for you? Depending on the circumstances, they can check the case for errors, have samples analyzed, suppress irrelevant evidence, contest the loss of driver license and diminish penalties. In other words, Memphis dui attorneys will do their best to keep you out of jail and make sure your license won’t be suspended. DUI lawyers have seen plenty of similar cases and know the right defense strategy. They can get you out of trouble or at least negotiate a considerably reduced sentence.

It is said that it’s better to prevent than to suppress, so our advice is to try to avoid driving under the influence. This way you will avoid not only penalties, but also serious damage to the others and yourself. However, having one beer is not the same thing as being completely drunk. Therefore the punishment should fit the offense. We should not focus on punishing the one who has made a mistake, but on avoiding such mistakes in the future.

Born in 1904, Sleepy John Estes rose to become a Memphis musician that would help pave the way for all other musicians. His father was a sharecropper who played guitar, which was what most people were who moved to Tennessee looking for a better life. When Sleepy John was 19, he began playing and singing in public when he wasnt working. He joined forces with two other aspiring musicians, and the rest is history. In 1929 he debuted as a recording artist in Memphis, recording for Victor Records. He would record until 1952, after which he was largely out of the public eye for almost twenty years.

The nickname Sleepy is said to have stemmed from either a blood pressure disorder or narcolepsy that he may have suffered from. Others claim that he earned the name by simply sleeping or ignoring things when things got bad or too much to handle. John Estes voice has been described as a distinctive, unique voice with a crying tone to it. He was a moderate guitar player, often teaming up with other advanced guitarists for his recordings.

In the 1970s it was thought for a time that Estes had died, because he had seemed to vanish without a trace, and his voice sounded so old twenty years earlier, people assumed that he must have been dead by then. However, two men looking to revive the Blues did in fact find Sleepy John, living in poverty as a homeless man on the streets. He had also by this time become completely blind. Nonetheless, he resumed touring and recording, making appearances in Japan and across Europe. Although this was a significant comeback for Sleepy John Estes, many fans agreed that his pre war recordings were sharper, deeper, and simply better than during his comeback tours.

Most of this Memphis musicians music was based on his own life. His lyrical abilities focused on simplicity, the ability to turn clever phrases, and a keen observation about the simplicity of life. He wrote songs about the local banker, going to start a music career, a teenage girl, the local mechanic, and of course, working and the value of good agricultural sense. Sleepy John Estes died in Tennessee in 1977, the victim of a stroke in June of that year. He was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

If you have been turned down for a mortgage, the mortgage company must tell you why you were rejected. Rejection does not make you a bad person and rejection does not mean you cannot still get home financing. The following type of institutions may still offer you a mortgage even if you are on the Bad Credit Mortgage Memphis list!

1. A credit union. If you belong to a credit union, visit the loan officer and explain to this person that you believe you are on a Bad Credit Mortgage Memphis list and you want to find out if the credit union would consider extending a loan to you. The loan office will check your credit report and make a decision though you were rejected previously. Membership has its privileges and a Credit Union is a wise alternative for some consumers.

2. State government. Tennessee, like all states, has agencies in place to help residents obtain a mortgage. Contact your government offices to find out which agency can assist you. In addition, contact your state attorney general if you learn that you are on a Bad Credit Mortgage Memphis list and know that you shouldn’t be!

3. Your church. Churches, parachurch organizations, and nonprofit associations may be of help to you too. Some of these heralded organizations have received government funds to be used to help residents of the community get key financial assistance. Check your phone book’s white pages for local organizations or visit your public library for help. Research online too!

All in all, being on the Bad Credit Mortgage Memphis list does not mean you will not get a mortgage. You may need to receive some credit counseling first, but lenders are in the business to let you borrow money and help your local community to prosper. A little extra effort on your part can mean the difference between owning a home or renting.

You have many options to get a mortgage loan if you are living in Memphis. Basically there are 3 methods available to you. You can visit a local bank, a local mortgage broker or apply online.

While during good times builders tend to be in a non-negotiating mood, with bloated inventories now is the perfect time to find a spiffy new house and make an offer. Your realtor can check days on market and the number of vacant units. If both are high then the builder is paying interest every month and you’ve got a good chance on getting a great deal. New construction can be great in that you will generally get a decent warranty for a year on the property and also that you have a fairly uniform development.

Buyers are also waiting on buying upper end houses; especially greater than $400,000. This has created a pricing quandary as no one really knows what the upper end is worth anymore. This can make your buying process more difficult. You can get a great deal; however, it’s hard to predict if you are dealing with a motivated seller before you make an offer.

The listing price for some will be a starting point, but others really don’t like to dicker. Memphis has traditionally been a low negotiation town. I’ve always been a proponent of leaving yourself some room to negotiate, but some people have a significant amount of emotional investment in sticking to their asking price. It never hurts to make an offer, though, just be prepared for some extra shopping time and with the reward of potentially a really great deal.

The other major consideration created by the low appreciation of the Memphis market is mortgage balances. Having little or no equity in the property and faced with the necessity of paying a six percent commission, it can be very tough to convince someone to pay ready cash to close the deal. That’s if they even have ready cash. The true market price of a residence can take a back seat to facing reality of a lowered standard of living to pay back the shortage on a loan.

Due to the tax credit and general residual need the lower than $200,000 dollar market is still quite vibrant. This spectrum in Memphis also represents the first time home buying couple and is usually competitive with equivalent rentals in about the same price range. Due to a national preference for buying attributable to both a culture of customization and tax advantages, there should always be a steady flow of buyers in this price range. Demand may be pent-up for awhile but it should never go away and won’t be lost.

Some house transactions are being permanently lost during the recession. People who desire to upgrade have wisely decided that caution should be used when changing. Buying a house has considerable costs and should not be undertaken lightly.

Memphis furniture is not exactly furniture itself and certainly doesn’t refer to the city of the same name. Memphis is actually a group of designers named The Memphis Group. Although they had many different names for their work it is often called Memphis themed furniture. They were much known for their illogical, avant garde, erratic, and anti-establishment look. Bright colors and bad taste were just one part of this look, as it was more loosely described as post modernism by trying to break away from the International trend that was around at that time.

The group composed of Italian designers created highly influential products in the 1980s. Basically, they disagreed with the conformist approach to furniture and wanted to challenge the fact that furniture had to follow a certain shape, color, or texture. In the 1970s, there was a great deal of black and minimalist furniture and they wanted to break the mold by making shocking and vibrant pieces. Although controversial, they were certainly ground breaking at the time.

The Memphis Group drew their inspiration from Art Deco, Pop Art and futuristic themes. The furniture they designed was outrageous to say the least. Very straight lines and geometric designs made the furniture a piece of art. Laminates covered most of the furniture making it uncomfortable to sit on, but beautiful to look at. The material was cheap, making it affordable for people to add a piece to their home, although it rarely matched with anything.

The group considered it their duty to fill the world with furniture like any other. They wanted it to be known as the “ultimate fruit salad” of furniture. Pieces were made without any regard to culture or seriousness. The pieces they produced were whimsical and stark in comparison to “normal” furniture. Pieces such as a book case with almost vertical lines instead of horizontal, and teapots made of freight trains were just the tip of the iceberg with this group. Crazy sideboards and bonker beds were all the rage.

Many designers put the group down saying Memphis furniture would never last. They said that it was a fad that would eventually wear out as any furniture design except for traditional. Furniture makers were right. The Memphis Group dissolved in 1988, but left a huge impact on future furniture designs and graphic designs. Fabrics and furniture alike had been changed forever with more people going with brighter colors, and a more modern appearance. Memphis themed furniture is definite of the take it or leave it variety, but it certainly moved the design world away from the boring International look of the time.

Dates in Memphis which is a beautiful city which falls on southwest corner of the United states of Tennessee, is an adventure to reckon. The cool breeze that is familiar with great lovers is not lacking in this river city since it slightly rises above the river of Mississippi. If you are worried about numbers, worry no more because the dating pool is relatively large. In fact Memphis if the Largest city in the United States of Tennessee in terms of population. The rate at which the city is growing is so high that you will feel happy to be a part of a growing economy. It might be the youngest city in Tennessee but it is the most exciting in terms of social life.

Dates in Memphis are great and the barbecues makes it an even more fun thing. Memphis is off course a clear leader among all America’s states. If food unties all the love knots in your heart, you will love the eating joints in Memphis. The blue city cafe, Cozy corner and if you want to have a generous share the Rendezvous is a better option. Life in Memphis is always fun. It gives you the idea that you have it made in life as a young person especially if you have an apartment in a good environment, a well paying job, nice friends and cement everything a Memphis eligible man.

Dates in Memphis are usually appropriate for people who are dating to have fun. The best person for marriage you will agree with me is a person who has been in the dating scene, has seen it all, done it all and is ready to commit to one person seriously. The maturity level for such a person is high and turns out to be successful. It is Memphis where you will meet married people who enjoy dating, single men who do not have children (that they know off). If you are coming from a less flattering city, Memphis is the best place to find a date.

The Memphis Schools system has created a department to handle the recruitment and organization of community members who are willing and able to donate time and effort mentoring students. As stated on the Memphis City Schools website, “helping one child learn helps us all. Children must master basic reading and mathematics skills to succeed in life, and all of them can. But some need a little extra help and a little extra time. Some of them need you.”

Memphis Schools are calling on the entire community to help tutor students, and will give volunteers all the training and materials needed to do the job. Adds the Memphis Schools website, “All you have to invest is a little time. And when this investment grows, everybody profits. It’s time we stopped asking, “Why doesn’t somebody do something?” Somebody can. You. Join Our children – Our Future, the new Memphis City schools volunteer tutor training program.” It is a wonderful initiative that is being undertaken by the Memphis Schools system, and one to be copied by other school systems throughout Tennessee and the nation.

When participating in the program serving students attending Memphis Schools, volunteer tutors work with K-6 students for 30 minutes once or twice a week, and 45 minutes once a week for those in 7th – 12th grades. Times for tutoring sessions will be individualized for all Memphis Schools, and will include times before, during, and after the school day. Individual schedules of volunteers will be considered when scheduling tutoring sessions.

Volunteers at any of the Memphis Schools will receive approximately 2 ½ -3 hours of training, as well as all materials they might require when working with their student. Tutors can pick the age of the child they work with, as well as what subject (either Reading or Math) they want to help in. Volunteer tutors must have a high school diploma, and have a strong concept of algebraic concepts if tutoring in higher math. In addition, all volunteers must agree to a background check, in order to ensure the safety of all Memphis Schools students.
